Police try to identify cyclist after crash

Police are trying to find out the identity of a cyclist who was seriously injured in a road crash last night (Monday, 8 February), and locate witnesses who saw the car that collided with him.
The crash happened around 11.25pm and when a red Mazda Eunos collided with the cyclist who travelling in the same direction on Jones Street, Whanganui outside Girls College.
As a result of the accident the cyclist was transferred to the Whanganui Hospital with serious injuries. Police have not been able to identify the man who is described as Maori, in his early twenties, slim to medium build and approximately 5’8” tall. He was wearing a white Raiders t-shirt, red and black Rusty board shorts, white ankle socks and grey and black jandals. He also was wearing a black and red wrist watch and a black Volcom cap but no cycle helmet. The male has a tattoo on his right upper arm and his left lower arm.
The male was riding a black mountain bike which had blue tape on the right handle grip.
The cause of the crash is being investigated and police want to hear from anyone who saw the red Mazda Eunos prior to the collision, or witnessed the actual collision.
Anyone with information about the identity of the man, the red car or the crash is asked to contact Whanganui Police Station on (06) 349 0600.
